About The Project

Natalija Brunovs was a photographer in residence in Mingenew for all of May 2008.
The community had the opportunity to learn how to take great photographs as well as contribute to a collection of photographs of what they love (and live with) in Mingenew. The photographs culminated in an outstanding exhibition at the end of the month. The images have also been produced into a DVD supplied to the Shire and all participants.

Workshops were attended by almost 200 people. Impressive for a town of around 600. They were run on farms and in town on most days and some evenings. Everyone was welcome to attend.

A Social & Cultural Triumph
Natalija Brunovs has had no rest! "Over roast dinners, sheep feeding or whilst sitting in the bakery, I've been sharing skills and creativity through the medium of photography. I've worked with all ages and ranges of people. Some have just been thrilled to know what all those buttons actually do on their cameras whilst others are set to master the art of capturing beauty. Whether a person's aim is to photograph a fleeting sunset, a day on the farm, or their child playing sport, the project gives everyone the opportunity to learn and enjoy photography."
"Friendships have blossomed and fresh eyes are opening all over Mingenew this month."

Jocelyn Morgan, The Mingenew Project Coordinator adds, "In a time of stress and other commitments such as seeding, it has been amazing how many people have made the time to participate and spend time with their neighbours in a way that is becoming more and more difficult to do. The project has shown the community the ties that bind us"

The Mingenew Project received funding from Country Arts WA.
This project is made possible with the support of the Mid West Development Commission and the Regional Arts Fund, an Australian Government initiative supporting the arts in regional remote and very remote/isolated Australia.
